We make alot of mistakes when it comes to dental and oral hygiene. Being in a society where we act upon false information given by our friends and relatives.

Not using toothpaste because it will scratch your tooth enamel, buying the toothbrush with the hardest bristles because they think it will clean better, rejoicing because their gums are bleeding, hanging their head because their teeth were “crooked from birth”…

Some of us put our dentures in bleach, some of us use alcohol to kill the pain, tobacco or salt are used. But the most important thing is that we dont think to go to the dentist until the pain is unbearable and it is too late.

Brushing your teeth well; is not how hard the bristles on your toothbrush are but the technique in which you brush them. Usually medium-bristled toothbrushes are recommended as hard-bristled toothbrushes can scratch the tooths enamel. Soft-bristled toothbrushes in some cases don´t clean well enough.

BRUSHING YOUR TEETH HARDER WILL CLEAN BETTER: brushing your teeth with force; instead of cleaning your teeth, will cause what we call “toothbrush decay”. Because you scratch and disrupt your tooths enamel, the layer below (dentin) will appear and leave your teeth looking yellower. Brushing your teeth with force can also damage your gums and result in gingivitis.

USING MORE TOOTHPASTE WILL SCRATCH YOUR ENAMEL: Scratching your tooths enamel; doesnt occur because of the use of more toothpaste but is the result of using a toothpaste with large granules. That is why we must not use a toothpaste with large granules over a longe period of time. The amount of toothpaste we should apply to a toothbrush is the size of a “lentil”.

YELLOW TEETH ARE FIRMER:The colour of a tooth does not indicate how firm it is.

You should not wet your toothbrush before brushing your teeth. The bristles on your toothbrush will lose their firmness and you have enough saliva in your mouth for the toothpaste to foam as is.

TOOTH DECAY IS GENETIC, REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU DO IT WILL REOCCUR:We all have genetic differences and one persons teeth will never fully resemble anothers but after taking up good dental hygiene and getting checked up at your dentist regularly, genetics will not play a major factor on your dental and oral health.

TEETH SHOULD BE BRUSHED BEFORE BREAKFAST: You should brush your teeth atleast twice a day, after breakfast and before you go to bed. Once you have brushed your teeth you should gently brush the top of your tongue.

THE REMOVAL OF PLAQUE PRODUCES MORE PLAQUE INPLACE: Regularly brushing your teeth will prevent plaque from forming. Visiting the dentist every 6 months will help in removing the plaque that has formed because your teeth have not been brushed regularly.

REMOVING PLAQUE DAMAGES THE TOOTHS ENAMEL: The removal of plaque will never damage the enamel so long as the treatment is performed correctly.

BAD BREATH OCCURS TO EVERYONE AND WILL NOT PASS: Bad breath (halitosis) can be the result of tooth decay, gingivitis and sinus problems. The treatment of these symptoms will in most cases prevent bad breath.

BLEEDING OF THE GUMS WHILE BRUSHING YOUR TEETH IS GOOD: Bleeding gums while brushing your teeth are one of the early signs of infected gums. You should book an appointment immediately with your dentist. İf you do however stop brushing your teeth because of the bleeding then your symptoms will worsen.
